Bowie meets Byrne via the B52s...

“I’ve made a life from writing films and plays and books, but songwriting was always my first love. It’s been a joy to rediscover it, still here, waiting for me to hit record.” (Anthony Mullins, June 2023).

Planetarium (Brisbane-Meanjin based songwriter Anthony Mullins) fashions a distinctive vibe and voice with this collection of indie guitar-pop tunes.

After an award-winning career as a writer, Mullins rediscovered his first love, songwriting, during the lockdowns.

Recording using a deceptively simple desktop studio, Mullins performs all the instruments (except for one bass part by upstairs neighbour and ex-Go Between, Adele Pickvance, and cat bells by his beloved cat Heathcliffe).

The resulting album is a soulful landscape of infectious melody, movement and emotion.

From the angular guitar grooves of the title track, "When An Animal Dreams", to the the tender songsmithery of "Happy Place", to the rowdy playfulness of "Warning", Mullins' velvet voice welds this eclectic suite of songs together.
